Houston Remodelers Win CADRE

2022 GHBA Remodelers Council board of directors

The GHBA Remodelers Council has done it again! The Council was honored with a national award—the Council Award for Demonstrating Remodeling Excellence (CADREs), for Large Council of the Year from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelers.

The award was announced during the NAHB Remodelers annual Board of Trustees meeting at the 2022 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla. on Feb.7.

The pandemic presented many challenges including restrictions on meetings, inability to conduct events in person for several months and a surge in business issues from labor shortages to supply chain disruptions. Despite all the challenges, the Houston Remodelers Council (RMC) continued to ensure its members received access to programs, information, education, and fellowship. With the introduction of virtual meetings, the RMC was able to keep member engagement high, but networking was impacted.

Eventually they were able to identify ways to foster effective networking environments.
Though a year over year decline in membership was expected due to the pandemic, the Remodelers Council beat expectations by nearly 11%, with 292 total Council members to close out Q3 2021.

The Houston Remodelers Council continued to foster strong relationships and a family atmosphere throughout the pandemic including participating in the American Institute of Architects Sandcastle Competition in Galveston. This two-day event is a longstanding Council tradition that drew 85 members out to the beach to share in fellowship and work together to build an impressive sandcastle.

The Council is not just where members grow their business skills and knowledge, but they create long-lasting relationships with fellow professionals.

In 2021, the GHBA Remodelers Council continued its history of giving back to the Houston area through its annual charity renovations. Unfortunately, the annual charity garage sale that provides funding for these projects was canceled due to pandemic restrictions. The previously collected donations, which included dozens of new and slightly used construction items like windows, cabinets, doors, and more, were donated to a non-profit agency, Family Promise of Lake Houston.

Despite permitting delays and supply chain challenges, the Remodelers Council members pushed through and completed a much-needed, two-room addition for the House of Tiny Treasures, a nationally accredited preschool program for young children who have experienced homelessness. The RMC crew included more than two dozen members who came out in full force, with smiling faces and a determined spirit, for five volunteer workdays to complete the project.

“We are so proud and honored to win the NAHB Remodelers CADRE for Council of the Year in the large category again this year,” said Jackson Gillette with Craftsmanship by John, president of the GHBA Remodelers Council. “It’s a testament to how exception our Council really is. Thanks to our members, we have accomplished so many great things, and we’re excited to expand on this momentum into the future.”

The CADRE-Council of the Year is the NAHB Remodelers’ highest national award for work at the local level. NAHB CADRE Awards celebrate the breadth of innovative and diverse programming conducted in local remodelers councils across the country. The awards, judged by members of NAHB Remodelers’ leadership, are presented each year to local remodelers councils and individuals whose work at a local remodelers council exemplifies the best practices of the remodeling industry.

A tribute to the excellent leadership and council members here in Houston, the GHBA Remodelers Council has earned at least one CADRE for 11 years in a row!
